Local community groups will host an event this weekend asking for support. Friends of Seward Park will hold a morning meeting at the Seward Park Audubon Center to share an update of its torii restoration project at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The group has been working on a $100,000 Neighborhood Matching Fund grant program to rebuild a torii (Japanese shrine gate), which used to stand at the park from the mid 1930s to mid 1980s as a symbolic cultural gateway.
According to Paul Talbert of the Friends of Seward Park, the group is over half way to its goal to complete the project by next year.
The Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington will also have a holiday sale event at its Hosekibako, a community resale shop, this Saturday.
All items are 15% off, and 25% off for JCCCW members. Profits will benefit the organization.
