Seattle JACL Holds Annual Meeting

The Japanese American Citizens League Seattle Chapter held its 94th annual meeting, “Sports and Social Justice,” at SODO Park last Saturday. The organization recognized Japanese and Asian Pacific Islanders who have broken barriers and racial stereotypes through sports.

Local representatives included King County Executive Dow Constantine, Seattle Mayor Ed Murray and Consul Gener al Ma sahi ro Omur a. The organization also presented awards to key individuals who have promoted social justice including: Frank and Penny Fukui of Woodburn Co. with the Community Corporate Engagement Award, Akemi Matsumoto of APACE with the Community Engagement Award, Deputy Mayor Hyeok Kim with the Civil Rights Award and North Seattle College with a Special Recognition for Championing Youth.
