Omoide’s monthly speaker series featured Professor Marie Wong of Seattle University and the history of the International District on Nov. 21 at the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Washington. A researcher of local and International District history, Wong shared what she had learned about the hotel buildings, businesses and the Seattle Japanese Hotel Association. She explained how the old buildings were effectively designed for the early male-dominated immigration era, how the International District community was built and how the hotel businesses were populated by the Japanese immigrants in Seattle.

日系移民史の編纂プロジェクト「思い出」の月例ミーティングが11月24日にワ州日本文化会館で行われ、毎月の講演シリーズでシアトル大学のマリー・ウォン教授が招待された。インターナショナル・ディストリクトの歴史専門家でもあるウォン教授は、男性中心だった初期移民事情に適した当時の建物や部屋構成や、シアトル地域の多くで日系人によって経営されたホテル、アパートビジネスなどを紹介。同地形成の歴史や建物、ビジネスの変遷について講じた。（写真 ＝ 佐々木 志峰）
