More than a hundred people celebrated the release of Kay Hirai’s new book, “Keiko’s Journey” at a crowded event at the Nagomi Tea House last Sunday sponsored by the Hokubei Hochi Foundation, North American Post and Chin Music Press. Attendees were treated to a musical demonstration and talk by local musician Paul Kikuchi, remarks from Tomio Moriguchi and Kurt Tokita and, of course, to a reading, question and answer session and book signing with Hirai herself.
Hirai’s stories, like her book, were emotionally and honestly told, and she touched the diverse audience with her unique history as the daughter of a Nisei (second generation) Japanese American growing up in Japan. Hirai also sold cards, dolls and other small gifts at the event as part of her Angels for the Animals fundraiser.
