“The Rise and Fall of Modern Japanese Literature: What Happens Next” with John Whittier Treat, Yale University Emeritus

UW Japan Studies Program Affiliate Professor John Whittier Treat for a talk about the future of Japanese literature. Taking his most recent book “The Rise and Fall of Modern Japanese Literature” as a point of departure. This book tells the story of Japanese literature from its start in the 1870s against the backdrop of a rapidly coalescing modern nation to the present. Treat will explore recent trends and possibilities of where Japanese literature is headed in the post-modern era.
