Experience the cultures of Japan and Mongolia through song and dance—and shakuhachi. Join Mongolian folk singer Yilina and friends from East Japan for an afternoon of special performances.

Yilina, a renowned vocalist from Mongolia, is coming back to Seattle for the first time since 2018, when she headlined a benefit concert for recovery after the Great East Japan Earthquake, leading a new group of performers for a new event. On Sun. 3/30, you can enjoy their talents at a benefit concert at UW School of Music’s Brechemin Auditorium, this time for those affected by the 2024 earthquake on the Noto Peninsula.
Titled “Harmony across Cultures,” the wide-ranging program will feature Mongolian and Japanese folk songs, a performance on the shakuhachi flute, songs from local Japanese choirs, kagura ceremonial dance, traditional Japanese dance, and more. Before the curtains go up, you can experience the sound of Japanese koto, an introduction to tea ceremony, and a panel with updated information about the situation on the Noto Peninsula, all in the lobby.
Entrance is free. The Ishikawa Kenjin-Kai of Seattle will collect donations to a scholarship fund for students affected by the Noto Earthquake.
