It is free for 60 and older ($4 suggested donation) and $10 for under 60 years old. \nThis lunch program at Kawabe Memorial House is called “Meiji Kai Lunch Program.” The program was originally began in 1975 at NVC Memorial Hall to serve Japanese style lunch for NVC members and their families\, then transferred to Kawabe Memorial House in 2002. Today\, this program serves healthy lunch at low cost\, as well as socializing opportunities for seniors in our community.

DESCRIPTION:Meito Shodo-Kai Calligraphy Association\, headquarter located in Redmond\, WA (headed by Master Calligrapher Yoshiyasu Fujii\, Judge member at the Mainichi Shodo Exhibition) will hold their 14th Japanese Calligraphy Exhibition with the visiting Master Calligrapher\, Shuko Yoshizawa from Aomori\, Japan. The exhibition is held with the aim to introduce shodo (calligraphy)\, a traditional Japanese culture\, and all of the 180 calligraphy works will be exhibited in the form of kakejiku (scroll). There will be demonstrations by the Masters between 1 pm and 2 pm on both days. Please come by and enjoy the Japanese traditional art.

DESCRIPTION:On October 11\, 2018\, a coalition of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) community organizations will host the 6th annual API Candidates and Issues Forum. The forum will start at 6 p.m. with light dinner served starting at 5:30 PM at Asian Counseling and Referral Service at 3639 MLK Jr. Way South. \nEstablished in 2012\, the API Candidates and Issues Forum’s goal is to “provide an educational\, nonpartisan forum for API civic engagement where electoral candidates and initiatives are treated fairly and provided with equal time to respond to questions on issues that are important to our API communities.” Initiatives and electoral races are considered for the forum when they affect API communities. \nAt this time\, one initiative and two electoral races are confirmed for the API Candidates Forum: \n1. Initiative 1631 – The Protect Washington Act.\nAlso known as the Carbon Emissions Fee and Revenue Allocation Initiative\, the Voter’s Guide states “[t]his measure would charge pollution fees on sources of greenhouse gas pollutants and use the revenue to reduce pollution\, promote clean energy\, and address climate impacts\, under oversight of a public board.”\nExamples of highly affected API communities include Chinatown ID with the worst air quality in Seattle\, and Beacon Hill with challenging air and noise pollution health impacts from roads and airplanes. \n2.
