SUMMARY:CAATA Conversations: Pathways Forward
DESCRIPTION:Supporting Transitions\, Building Networks\, and Navigating the Future of AANHPI\, SWANA\, MENA\, and Mixed Race Theatre \nHosted by CAATA in partnership with Rutgers University\, Harvard Asian Arts Project\, and Stanford University \nCAATA Conversations: Pathways Forward is a gathering centered on supporting college students as they transition into the professional theatre field. This conversation brings together emerging artists and working professionals across the AANHPI\, SWANA\, MENA\, and Mixed Race theatre community to share insights\, experiences\, and practical strategies for navigating careers in the industry. \nTogether\, we will explore the realities of entering the professional landscape—from building sustainable networks to identifying opportunities\, challenges\, and pathways for growth. This is a space for students to engage directly with artists who have forged their own paths\, ask questions\, and gain guidance grounded in lived experience. \nThis conversation is not only about career entry. It is about access\, mentorship\, and community. We gather to exchange knowledge\, strengthen intergenerational connections\, and envision more equitable and supported futures for the next generation of theatre-makers.

SUMMARY:Estate Planning\, Wealth\, and Tax Seminar
DESCRIPTION:As the tax landscape continues to evolve\, integrated planning between investment strategy\, tax management\, and estate planning has never been more important. \nIn this free seminar\, our expert panelists will explore how coordinating these three disciplines can help investors improve tax efficiency\, protect long-term wealth\, and position assets for a more effective generational transfer. These developments are particularly important for residents of Washington State\, where recent and proposed legislative changes are reshaping the tax environment. This evolving landscape highlights why a coordinated approach to wealth\, tax\, and estate planning is increasingly critical.\nThoughtful planning today can help investors navigate shifting tax policies\, preserve more of their wealth\, and ensure their financial strategies remain aligned with both current laws and future legislative changes. \nWe hope you’ll join us! This is a free community seminar/workshop offered as part of our Legacy Education Series. \nPlease register to attend: https://forms.gle/rzvkWkUAUVkCQoTcA

SUMMARY:NVC Memorial Day Program
DESCRIPTION:The Nisei Veterans Committee (NVC) holds a Memorial Day Service every year since 1946 to honor Japanese American and other veterans who gave their lives in service to our country. Over the years\, it has become one of the oldest and largest Memorial Day services in the Northwest\, with several hundred gathering by the Nisei War Memorial\, a 22-foot-tall granite obelisk inscribed with the sites of major campaigns of WW II in Europe and the Pacific\, as well as the names of Japanese American KIA (killed in action) from the Spanish-American War\, WW I\, WW II\, the Korean Conflict\, Vietnam\, and Granada. \nMost of the Nisei WW II veterans served in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team/100th Battalion\, the most highly decorated unit for its size and length of service in the history of the US military\, while others served in the Military Intelligence Service (MIS)\, a unit credited by a member of General McArthur’s HQ staff with shortening the war in the Pacific by two years. Many served in these segregated units while the U.S. government held their families back home in concentration camps behind barbed wire. 81 years later\, the Japanese American community and friends will gather to honor the Nisei veterans’ service and loyalty to country as we strive to continue their legacy of courage and sacrifice. We also honor those who gave their lives in subsequent wars and conflicts around the globe. \nThe Memorial Day Program will start with a presentation of colors by the Seattle Buddhist Temple Boy Scout Troop 252\, followed by Prayers and Meditations from both Christian and Buddhist perspectives\, and end with a Presentation of Floral Wreaths by over a dozen community and veterans’ organizations in memory of our fallen heroes. Our Keynote Speaker is Nyle Miyamoto\, whose father served in the 442nd RCT. \nThe public is cordially invited to attend and pay their respects.\nMay Peace and Justice prevail. \n“Go For Broke!”

SUMMARY:James K. Okubo Memorial Bench Dedication
DESCRIPTION:James Kazuo Okubo is the only Congressional Medal of Honor recipient from Whatcom County. Yet he remains virtually unknown and unrecognized in the place that nurtured his unbreakable roots as an American citizen with an unquestioned duty to country\, no matter how unjustly he and his fellow Japanese Americans were treated. \nBorn in Anacortes in 1920\, he grew up in Bellingham and graduated from Bellingham High School in 1938 with dreams of becoming a dentist. He was a popular student in his junior year at Western Washington State College when he was unlawfully detained in 1942 and forced to board a bus in front of his home on H St. never to see it again. His large blended family were among the 33 longtime Japanese Americans residents and business owners from Bellingham who were taken to live in an American concentration camp in Tule Lake\, Calif. then transferred to other camps for the remainder of the war. While his family was imprisoned\, he volunteered to serve as a medic in the legendary 442nd Regimental Combat Team of U.S. Army defending the country that put them there. \nHis hero story was legend among the survivors of one of the bloodiest battles on the European front. He died in an accident in Michigan in 1967 – long before President Bill Clinton awarded Congressional Medal of Honor Medals to 22 cited\, but previously unrecognized Asian American and Pacific Islander servicemen in 2000. \nWestern Washington University awarded a posthumous Bachelor of Arts degree to Okubo at Spring Commencement 2019. \nThis bench is the first permanent recognition of Okubo in Whatcom County.

SUMMARY:Rice on Repeat: An AAPI Circus
DESCRIPTION:Six Asian American Circus artists perform an acrobatic family dinner in Rice on Repeat: An AAPI Circus. \nThere are 3 bowls of rice served throughout our lives: one served to us\, one served to ourselves\, and one served to others. For many\, dinner with family is about connecting and sharing experiences. A bowl of rice is a simple dish that we each flavor to our own tastes. Still\, that bowl of rice is also the foundation of a meal and our cultures. \nAcrobats will set the table\, serve the rice\, and share their life stories through dance and circus arts. It’s an ordinary routine full of extraordinary acts: handstands on the lazy susan\, bowls of rice served from a flying pole\, and a chosen family celebrating their shared experiences through movement. The relatable moment when you forget to set the rice\, is suddenly a game of partner acrobatics as we wait for dinner to be ready. \nCircus arts has its place in theater as a medium for storytelling. Oroki Productions was established to give voices to our artists through this medium that gives us freedom\, community\, and a way to bring representation into performance art spaces. \nThis production was made with support from the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture.

SUMMARY:Fire Horse Ladies' Summer Party ヒノエウマ女子の夏祭り
DESCRIPTION:FIRE HORSE LADIES SUMMER PARTY\nJuly 7\, 2026 \nA celebration by Fire Horse Ladies\, for Fire Horse Ladies.\n2026 marks the return of the Fire Horse Year—a milestone that comes only once every 60 years. \nFor generations in Japan\, women born in the Fire Horse year were burdened by an unfair superstition that labeled them as “too strong\,” “too independent\,” or even destined to bring misfortune.\nThe impact was so significant that when the last Fire Horse Year arrived in 1966\, Japan’s birth rate reportedly dropped by nearly 25%.\nT\nhe Fire Horse Ladies Summer Party is organized by the very women born in that year—women who have lived through those stereotypes\, challenged them\, and forged their own paths.\nToday\, we are launching a new movement called Celebrate in Orange 2026. \nOur goal is simple:\nTo transform the Fire Horse Year from a year once feared into a year proudly celebrated around the world.\n🧡 Let’s celebrate the 60th birthday of the Fire Horse generation in orange—the color that symbolizes the positive energy\, strength\, and spirit of the Fire Horse.\nAs the first step in this movement\, we hosted the Fire Horse Ladies Hina Matsuri ( Girls’ Festival) Celebration in Tokyo this March.\nWomen traveled from across Japan to attend. Some had struggled with the Fire Horse stigma throughout their lives. Others had never paid much attention to it. Yet by the end of the evening\, many shared the same feeling:\n“I am proud to be a Fire Horse.” \nOur next gathering will take place in Bellevue\, Washington.\nOn the evening of Tanabata\, July 7\, Fire Horse Ladies will come together once again to learn\, connect\, share stories\, and celebrate.\nThis event will be held in both English and Japanese.\nWomen born in 1966 are welcome regardless of nationality\, language\, or cultural background.\n━━━━━━━━━━━━━━\nFire Horse Ladies Summer Party\n━━━━━━━━━━━━━━\nDate:\nTuesday\, July 7\, 2026 6:30 PM\nLocation:\nAvalon Towers Lounge\nBellevue\, Washington\nSuggested Admission:\n$60—Pay What You wish\n・Light refreshments and free-flow drinks included\n・Commemorative Fire Horse gift included\n・Learn about the history and myths of Fire Horse women in Japan.\n・Bilingual event (English & Japanese)\n・Advance registration required \nThis is a community-organized celebration created by and for Fire Horse Ladies. Our goal is to bring together as many Fire Horse Ladies as possible to celebrate this special year together. Please contribute whatever feels right for you. \nRegistration:\nhttps://forms.gle/tAF9qyUiqzPQERaT6\nEvent Details: \nFire Horse Ladies’ Summer Party ・ヒノエウマ女子の夏祭り！in Bellevue\,WA \n\nIf you were born in 1966\, we would love to celebrate with you.\nHosted by:\nFire Horse Ladies Organizing Committee\nOrganizer:\nMegumi Ijiri Haskin \nAfter 60 years\, Fire Horse Ladies are gathering to celebrate\, learn\, connect\, and create a new story together. Let’s transform the Fire Horse Year from a year of superstition into a year of pride. And let’s begin that new tradition together.
