3rd JAPAN WEEK @ Bellevue College

The Bellevue College Japanese Culture Exchange Club, together with the Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle, will be presenting the 3rd annual JAPAN WEEK @ Bellevue College this fall. The open-to-public festival day will be Sept. 28 (Saturday) from 10am-5pm. They will have many exciting activities, cultural exhibits, presentations, Japanese music, dance, and martial arts demonstrations, etc. as in past years.
Program Highlights:
Kendama Contest. Judging our first Kendama Contest are Nick and Zack Gallagher. Nick is the 2018 Kendama World Champion. Twin brother Zack is a world-renowned kendama pro in his own right! Enjoy their amazing demonstration immediately following the contest. They plan to have a competition for Beginning level and Intermediate level players. Winners in each group will receive a prize. [Sponsored by Sweets Kendamas]

Japanese movie. This year’s movie is ビリギャル (“Flying Colors”) based on a true story about a failing high school student who was accepted into Keio University after meeting a teacher who believed in her abilities.

Planetarium Storytime. The audience views the Harvest Moon and Milky Way while listening to かぐや姫 (Moon Princess) story. [Presented by Voice Library in Japanese, Sponsored by BC Science and Math Institute]
Japan Trivia Contest. Participants will use their smartphones to answer questions related to Japan. There will be a prize for the winner. [Sponsored by Seattle IT Japanese Professionals]
Cosplay Costume Contest. Come dressed in your best cosplay costume. There will be a prize for the winner. [Sponsored by ANCEA/Sakura-Con]
Dango Workshop. Learn how to make delicious Dango. International students from Japan will be conducting this cooking workshop.
Martial Arts Demonstrations at Carlson Theatre by various martial arts schools.
Musical Performances on the Stage, Taiko Performances at the Courtyards, Tea Ceremony & Ikebana, Karaoke Room, Yukata & Samurai Armor Photo Booths, Flea Market & Japan Market, Various lectures/workshops/demonstrations
They are also recruiting 200 volunteers, so please sign up and be a part of this exciting event and receive a complimentary event T-shirt. High school students can receive a Volunteer Certificate to receive volunteer credits from their schools.
